English abstract

This appendix to Hengel’s Zealots is a critical history and review of research on the Zealots (the Jewish Rebel movement who incited the resistance against Rome in the 1st cent. AD) over the last 50 years. It also contains elements of my own research on the Zealots as an example of an eschatologically-intensified adaptation of an established religion. Together with the bibliography this is the most up-to-date publication on the Zealots available at the moment.
