<22>This article is the culmination of a series of much-cited conference papers (with Gatt and Van der Sluis) on the so-called TUNA experiment. This experiment, originally a part of the TUNA project (PI: Van Deemter), led to an influential survey in Computational Linguistics 38(1), 2012 (with E.Krahmer) and a series of international contests, known as the TUNA challenges (also: ASGRE challenges), which have transformed Natural Language Generation, where such contests between algorithms are now frequent. A book contract on reference and the TUNA experiment, with van Deemter as author, has been signed with MIT Press (April 2013).
