First evidence of a functional interaction between DNA quadruplexes and poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase-1.
This article for the first time linked G-quadruplex DNA structures found in gene promoters with a protein (PARP-1) involved in transcription regulation and DNA repair mechanisms. It provided indirect evidence of the existence of such structures in vivo. The work has been cited by leading experts in the field such as Prof. Balasubramanian (Cambridge) and Prof. Hurley (University Of Arizona, USA), including in Nature Reviews Drug Discovery (2011). This study was the main topic of an invited lecture given at the Curie Institute in Paris (France) and a lecture given at a European workshop in Spa (Belgium).
