Additional information

Vessel bifurcations are prone to atherosclerotic lesions because of turbulent blood flow and changing shear stress. Characterization of geometrical information in vessel bifurcations remains a challenging task due to the presence of irregular geometries. Here, an automated algorithm for simultaneous determination of centrelines and reference surfaces, based on deformable tube registration, is proposed. The technique demonstrates when compared to the state of the art, alleviates the need for image upsampling and copes with partial vessel surface information, by using a robust distance metric to measure the goodness of the fit between the tube and the vessel of interest.
