Topological correction of hypertextured implicit surfaces for ray casting
<26> Implicit surface modelling combined with hypertexturing results in a small memory footprint for rendering planet-size terrain which includes overhangs and arches, unlike standard mesh models, but often results in surface topology issues or limitations, e.g. disconnected surface parts. Our paper solves that using a novel topology-correction technique based on Morse theory. This paper is the culmination of a body of work we have produced related to implicit modelling, including 3 other journal papers (Computer Graphics Forum; The Visual Computer; Computers & Graphics), 3 conference papers (including a best paper in TPCG2008) and one book chapter.
