Additional information

A range of corpus analytical techniques are used to analyse assignment macrostructure through section headings in the British Academy Written English (BAWE) corpus. No earlier studies have been able to draw on such a large corpus of actual, proficient student writing to provide empirical evidence to inform teaching and materials development. This paper has been cited in the Journal of English for Academic Purposes in the last couple of years for its methodology (Charles 2011) and for its use of macrostructures (Paltridge, Starfield, Ravelli, Tuckwell 2012), reflecting interest from scholars in the UK and in Australia.
