Mental health and special educational needs: exploring a complex relationship
Both Marie Howley and Anne Fergusson played a major role on the mental health in residential special schools project. Each had a distinctive responsibility within this project. Howley oversaw the analysis of mental health issues in relation to children with autism spectrum disorder and collected data from professionals working specifically with this population. Fergusson examined similar issues in respect of learners described as having profound and multiple learning difficulties. They were both involved in data collection and analysis in respect of these distinct populations as well as in overall interpretation of data from all schools.
