Psychophysical Acting: an intercultural approach after Stanislavski
Association for Theatre in Higher Education (USA) Book Prize (2010).
Psychophysical Acting is the culmination of over thirty years of Zarrilli’s work in intercultural performer training. The monograph is the result of Zarrilli’s research and extensive training and expertise in Asian martial arts and body/mind practices (yoga, kalarippayattu, and taijiquan), and connects these to the theories and practices of Western acting since Stanislavski. The book develops an extensive and complex account of acting, combining the theory, philosophy, and practices of acting drawing on Western and non-Western bodies of knowledge. This access to diverse primary materials is unique, based on an extensive period of workshop/studio practice and theoretical research.
