Additional information

This presents an innovative way of studying submarine slides by using quantitative geomorphological techniques to understand and constrain the nature of these events. It led to development of a new model for the much-studied Storegga Slide, and new recognition of the extensional spreading regime in the upper-slope section. This Statoil-funded research (£180k) has much improved understanding the mega-slide that lies above the Ormen Lange gasfield, offshore Norway, and hence the potential for further failure. The model enables more accurate prediction of slope stability above the hydrocarbon reservoir in the region, thus enabling significant influence on production management.
