Greeks and barbarians
This book offers the only existing synthesis in any language of the diverse interactions between Greeks and non-Greeks during the first millennium BCE (140,000 words, 415 pages, 51 illustrations, 8 maps). The process of collecting and analysing the material was particularly time-consuming, given that it covers the whole of the Mediterranean, Near East and Black Sea and employs the full range of literary, epigraphic, numismatic and archaeological sources. Its conceptual novelty consists of examining these interactions within the framework of globalisation and localisation and of rethinking Greek culture through examining its peculiar forms of interaction with other cultures.
