Large-scale sculpture Moldenke Fiddles On and drawings from several separate previous exhibitions around Europe (supporting materials Included as part of The British Art Show 7 In the Days of the Comet,). The drawings have been exhibited widely before the British Art Show. One of the drawings ‘On the Steps’ was used for all BAS7 publicity in Nottingham (all posters, signage, t-shirts for gallery staff etc.)
A central theme is these works is a reinterpretation of the possibilities of artwork made in a commercial art/illustration idiom. By incorporating ways that ‘applied’ work reinterprets and reflects contemporary art practice, these works present new dimensions for artistic practice. Both the sculpture and the drawings use innovative material techniques to create illusions of special depth and solidity when they are actually assemblages of unusual industrial materials. A discussion with curator Caroline Soyez-Petithomme of this method forms a basis of the interview feature in Zero Deux as well as the catalogue text in the BAS7 publication. These works have also appeared in MAP magazine (as a specially commissioned feature text with illustrations), in publications accompanying the original shows and in Frieze and TechnikArt magazines.
Now in its seventh incarnation the BAS is widely recognised as the most ambitious and influential exhibitions of contemporary British art. Organised by Hayward Touring, it takes place every five years. Curated by Lisa Le Feuvre and Tom Morton, the 39 selected artists were been chosen on the grounds of their significant contribution to contemporary art. Peter made two presentations during the exhibition. The first was an ‘in conversation’ at the Hay Festival 2010 led by the curators and alongside two other artists, Roger Hiorns and Phoebe Unwin. The second was a conversation at the Dan Graham Pavilion at the Hawyard in 2011 alongside Nathaniel Mellors, chaired by Isobel Harbison.
