Additional information

Dalziel + Scullion is an artistic partnership established in 1993, all their activity is co-authored.

The main outcome for this project is a permanent large scale photographic work on canvas, installed in the massive entrance hall of Great Glen House - new headquarters of Scottish Natural Heritage, in 2008. There are 5 panels, each 3m x 5m.

The research started in 2007 with a two-day international conference and a publication with DVD transcript, and an exhibition of emerging artists working in the field of art and ecology. The research comprised conceptualising and creating the large-scale artwork, which was emblematic of the work of Scottish Natural Heritage (the Government funded body that monitors the biodiversity of Scotland's nature and the management of landscapes across all of Scotland). Great Glen House, built by architects Keppie Design, is a flagship building and a benchmark for best practice in sustainable commercial building, receiving a Breeam score of 84.01%. The More Than Us project experimented with new types of ecological thinking and in particular at the means of disseminating information concerned with hidden narratives within biodiversity, a practice that can inform other activities of SNH and also introduce innovative methods of taking the work of SNH to new audiences.

A gallery version of MORE THAN US (with the five photographs combined into one 2m x 12m work, was short-listed for the £40,000 international Artes Mundi Prize 2008 - arts organisation that recognises and supports contemporary artists engaged with social reality and lived experience, stimulating debate about social and political themes. Exhibition: Artes Mundi3 (2008- 2009, National Galleries of Wales Cardiff, with accompanying catalogue, featured eight shortlisted artists.
