The research involved in this publication extends over 12 years and represents an exceptional commitment of research expertise in all aspects of its execution, from planning through organisation, research, writing, and editing. It is the second volume of publication of The Silchester Town Life Project which commenced in 1997 and is ongoing. The fieldwork published in this volume took place between 2000 and 2005, and the post-excavation and writing between 2006 and 2009. The printed report is supported by a web-based archive (www.silchester.reading.ac.uk/cit) which complements and augments the content published in this volume.
