This paper (downloaded over 4000 times with GoogleScholar citations exceeding 400) detailed techniques of digital filtering for mitigation linear transmission impairments, which has revolutionised the industry, enabling for example 400GbE transmission over fibre which previously could not be upgraded to 40Gbit/s. The paper is considered a seminal paper in the field, with the author receiving invited talks at the top two conferences in the field OFC(2008) and ECOC(2008). The research resulted in technical consultancy with both PMC-Sierra and Acacia Communications and formed the basis of EPSRC grant EP/G066159/1 (£300,000), and underpinned additional £5.8M EPSRC funding (EP/J017582/1, EP/J008842/1, EP/I012702/1)
