Harmonic function expansion for translating Green functions and dissipative free-surface waves
Significance of output:
Understanding of free water surface is a fundamental issue in hydrodynamics. For a water vehicle advancing at a uniform speed, the free surface wave resulting from the fluid structure interaction is characterized by a free surface Green function, of which the evaluation remains a significant barrier in the long history of numerical simulations of hydrodynamics. The novelty of the present examination is twofold. Firstly, the Green function is evaluated in a simple and straightforward manner and the evaluation barrier is successfully removed. Secondly, the free water surface wave is formulated analytically as an expansion of plane regular propagation water waves.
