Application of the design of experiments procedure to the behaviour of adhesively bonded joints with plastically deformable adherends to enable further understanding of strain rate sensitivity
The work described in this paper used a combination of experimental and analytical methods to further the understanding of the various additive effects of substrate/adhesive properties on adhesively bonded aluminium joints, with a particular emphasis on high strain rate conditions. This was beneficial to the development in confidence of a novel approach to the study of impact behaviour of adhesively bonded structures. The work on which this paper is based has been communicated to technical staff at Jaguar Land Rover and is integrated into company specific software for Finite Element Analyses of their current automotive structure developments.
