IF 1.552, Citations 11. Part of wider International collaborative research with University of Queensland, Australia and CNRS, France, exploring ultrasound induced physical grain refinement of Mg-alloys. Grain refinement of Mg-alloys is experiencing unprecedented research initiative to improve the strength and ductility for aerospace and automotive application of this lightest structural metal. Widespread adoption is hindered by the low ductility of hexagonal Mg compounded by the lack of available chemical grain refiners. In addition to showing strong grain refinement through ultrasonication, this work demonstrated that solute induced growth restriction effects remain significant contradicting the popular belief that convection destroys solute effects.
