The Immersed Structural Potential Method for haemodynamic applications
This paper was selected as one of the 4 outputs which contributed to the first author being awarded The Leverhulme Prize in November 2011 for contributions as young investigator in Computational Mechanics. A new fluid-structure interaction immersed methodology is developed to model cardiovascular phenomena, with low turnaround time and sufficient accuracy to augment the diagnostic tools used by clinicians. It addresses and resolves a number of shortcomings which exist within existing formulations. This research was developed under EPSRC funding (EP/F03010X/1), of which the first author was Principal Investigator in collaboration with cardiothoracic surgeons at Morriston Hospital, Swansea (Saeed.Ashraf@wales.nhs.uk).
