The work reported here was for an EPSRC Case award (£61.7k) working in partnership with Airbus (contact: Sanjiv Sharma, Systems Engineer, Sanjiv.Sharma@Airbus.com). The aim was to develop a new computer model of tyre/runway interaction and to embed this in a multibody systems computer model of an aircraft to simulate landing, takeoff and runway taxiing manoeuvres and to predict load paths through the tyre, landing gears and fuselage. The tyre model and was validated against physical tests using the Airbus TERATYRE test machine in Toulouse and has been implemented the landing gears department for projects such as the A380 Airbus.
