This paper presents innovative experimental measurements, made in the challenging environment of a firing internal combustion engine. This is the first time that it has been possible to compare well established results from simulations with experimental data of this type. The capability to conduct these measurements is of value to all the major automotive Tier 1 suppliers and OEMs who use simulation software in engine design and also to the simulation software suppliers who seek to validate simulation predictions.
