Additional information

As part of the research work within WG3 of COST Action FP0702, this paper summarised the need for vibrational comfort design for buildings and current regulations for comfort assessment of structural vibrations of timber floors in Europe, and assessed the design practices of timber floors regarding vibrational serviceability criteria in thirteen European countries. This has implications for Eurocode 5 to harmonise the national standards among the European countries on serviceability vibrational design of timber floors. It led to collaboration with universities, institutes and research centres from Sweden, Switzerland, Finland and Germany and a proposal for multi-million Euro research project.
