Additional information

This paper reports on a research study carried out to identify any rationale behind the slow uptake in the use of performance design. The paper identifies that there is a need for increased understanding, by the professionals involved in the design of buildings, of the benefits, in particular in relation to fire safety, to be gained by using performance design. The paper has identified educational needs; in particular, for architects and those carrying out a building control function.
