This is the first of the two chapters related to the first building constructed completely of reinforced concrete in Glasgow. The research was funded by the “Co-finance of International Co-operation Programmes” for the Region of Basilicata, Italy, and was delivered in collaboration with two academics from the University of Basilicata. The collaboration has led to the establishment of Erasmus programme between the two universities; the author has delivered a series of lectures on sustainable refurbishment of architectural heritage at the University of Basilicata as a result.
