Additional information
A major new application for screw theory, a new characterisation of well-known types of rigid-body motions is presented. Further developments are in progress, these concern the identification of particular types of vehicles based on algebraic properties of their screw systems and the consequences for optimal motions. The research has potential applications in surgery, such as needle steering.
