McShane is employed as tutor on the joint RCA/V&A postgraduate History of Design programme at the Museum. This includes teaching on the two-year MA course and supervising research students registered at the RCA. She contributes to the overall research strategy and identity of the joint programme and enhances the character of object-based research, in particular through her association with the V&A collections and expertise in historical and theoretical research. RCA Category A staff, including Cheang, Guth, Pavitt and Teasley, have benefited from the relationship with the V&A Research Department and have led research initiatives and participated in exhibitions and publications at the V&A.
