Double-weighted statement

a) Research: A very considerable amount of first hand investigation went into the preparation of all nine sections, each of which includes hitherto unfamiliar material. No previous anthology of any size has tried to make the literary case for Classical Irish ('bardic') poetry.

b) Creative Writing: The book contains a monograph's worth of original literary translations by the editor.

c) Criticism/Literary History: The Introduction is the only extant history of Irish poetry in all its languages. At 16,000 words, it runs to about twice the length of a typical scholarly essay or book chapter.
