“Inside The View”
Artist’s Monograph
Inside the View was designed as both an artist’s monograph and a work of art that recontextualises interrelated bodies of work from the 1980’s to the present day including those that that would not normally exist in book form, such as Sear’s video and installation pieces.
It draws together themes through which she has challenged the dominant view of photography as a documentary medium, and questioned relationships between the eye and its surrogate — the camera lens. Focusing on both the human and animal body, as well as representations of landscape, the bodies of work are interwoven with a text by artist and poet Dr. Sharon Morris from UCL Slade School. The text by Professor David Chandler of the University of Plymouth contextualises Sears practice over the last twenty-five years and its influence in relation to other key practitioners in the field.
