Additional information

This paper highlights results from seminal studies on refrigerant containment for refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Refrigerant leakage accounts for more than 2% of total worldwide greenhouse gas emissions. The research has led to better understanding of refrigerant leakage and the consequent development of training courses in at least 7 countries worldwide. It is mentioned in revisions to the proposed EU and Gas regulations as well as design guides in the EU, Australia and US, including the US Environmental Protection Agency and the European Partnership for Energy and Environment. Verification: Ina Colombo, Deputy Director, International Institute of Refrigeration (i.colombo@iifiir.org).
