Additional information

This work establishes a new way of looking at problems in the kinematics of mechanisms and robotics. The approach has the potential to change the way that kinematics is done by introducing sophisticated methods from algebraic geometry. This includes the use of homology theory to solve some enumerative problems. The space of pointed planes and pointed spheres are also introduced and identified as certain Segre varieties. This has potential applications to design synthesis problems.
