Double-weighted statement

John Ray's volume on demotic ostraca, a neglected field of study, publishes 383 completely new texts from Hellenistic Egypt. The range of these texts is very wide, including literary pieces, mathematical texts, and economic items such as jar labels; and a few texts are in Aramaic. Because of this exceptional range of material the basic research has taken many years and collating and interpreting the disparate material and bringing it together for publication has been the major research commitment of Professor Ray in the REF review period.
