Additional information

The significance of this paper in Blood (IF 10.558) merited an Expert Commentary on the discovery of a fractal biomarker for abnormal clotting. It results from a Royal Society Brian Mercer Award and collaboration with the NHS and EPSRC (EP/C513037/1). The work is being used in NHS trials and projects at Atlanta and Philadelphia. Its commercialization has received substantial first-round investment. It underpins an NIHR award involving five companies. An EPSRC Impact Case Study 2011 reports: “The translation of the research, the added value from the follow on funding and the impact from the devices in clinical settings are Exemplary”.
