Additional information

Wind turbine gearboxes fail prematurely. The reasons for these failures are not understood. This new work is rapidly shedding light on the underlying causes and reliable means of detecting bearing defects. A preliminary conference paper on this topic presented at the 38th Leeds-Lyon Symposium on Tribology was awarded the Maurice Godet Award. The methods are already being adopted by Romax Ltd, the world's leading wind-turbine gearbox design house (ID_in_audit_file@romaxtech.com). Co-author Sharad Jain is now working at Romax. The work is under non-disclosure constraints so has not been fully published.
