Double-weighted statement

The argument for double-weighting rests on the extent of the archival research undertaken. A wide range of local and national archives were used ranging from the Highland Archive in Inverness and Fort William to the National Records of Scotland and The National Archives of the UK, where material not previously utilised has been discovered. A wide range of themes have been dealt with and this has necessitated a multi-disciplinary approach and the use of material in Gaelic, a language in which the author has developed a modest reading knowledge in the course of his research.
