The Duke and the Stars: Astrology and Politics in Renaissance Milan

This book is based on extensive archival research and the study of a large number of unpublished documents housed in the archives and libraries of four different countries. It draws on literature written in five languages and offers an original interpretation of diplomatic correspondence in the context of a cultural history of science that remains largely to be written. Based on hundreds of letters and dozens of unpublished manuscripts, this book exceeds dramatically the scale and scope of a journal article and adds a startling new dimension to our current picture of both political praxis and the history of science.
