Double-weighted statement

The Two Unions combines political, cultural and social historical perspectives to sustain (for the first time) a comparison of the Scottish and Irish unions over a 300 year span. This is interlinked with a detailed examination of the longevity of the unions to produce numerous original arguments illuminating their long-term condition.

The book rests on research within 60 manuscript collections in four polities, 200 printed primary sources, and upon the rigorous comparison of two national historiographies. This breadth of research, and the extent of the arguments deployed (the book is 467 pp), exceed the scale and scope of one article.
