Additional information
The research was undertaken as part of the University PIPPIN project, a $500K research programme funded directly by the multinational programmable logic company Xilinx, the largest that they had funded anywhere outside of the US. It challenges current traffic management solutions by using field programmable gate arrays to create solutions that match processing and performance needs for specific network needs. The solutions were shown to work at real-time network speeds at that time, namely 2.5Gbps. The work led to a follow-on Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Award (http://gow.epsrc.ac.uk/NGBOViewGrant.aspx?GrantRef=EP/P503043/1).
