Additional information

<28>Published in the 2nd ranked journal in bioinformatics this paper derives a measure of semantic similarity between annotations that exploits all available information without introducing assumptions about the nature of the ontology or data. Our measure has good discriminatory power to identify possible pathways and other functional groups from gene product annotations. The measure is highly original, and the analysis and study is rigorous in terms of the biological data sets studied. Our measure better describes the information contained in annotations associated with gene products and as a result is better suited to characterising and classifying gene products through annotations.
