Additional information

This unique methodology based on Artificial Intelligence solves the important water industry problem of real-time detection of bursts in pipe networks. The new technology was patented (WO/2010/131001) and featured in news media (e.g. Water and Sewerage Journal, 3/2012). It resulted in a 3 year follow-on Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP008413) with United Utilities (UU), 4 year EPSRC STREAM EngD (610048904) and a keynote lecture at the world leading Computing and Control for the Water Industry 2013 conference. UU has been using detection system companywide from April 2013 benefiting its 7,000,000 customers and leading to estimated £2,000,000 annual savings (contact: Kevin.Woodward@uuplc.co.uk).
