Additional information

<22> The paper is significant in describing the first instance of a hyper-heuristic system that learns continuously over time, in contrast to previous work that either solves instances from scratch or requires periodic retraining. The system generates novel heuristics and exploits past history to provide efficient and effective solutions. Rigorously tested using a suite of 1370 problems. This is a recent paper (September 2013) now being applied to real-world instances of routing problems in collaboration with Optrak (optrak.com) through EPSRC funding EP/J021628/1
