Comparison of vacuum glazing thermal performance predicted using two- and three-dimensional models and their experimental validation
The modelling and experimental characterisation techniques presented were adapted and used extensively in the EPSRC funded CALEBRE project (EP/G000387/1, £119,390) in which vacuum glazing was identified to be a key retrofit technology. The recently commenced EPSRC project ‘High Performance Vacuum Flat Plate Solar Thermal Collector for Hot Water and Process Heat’ (EP/K009230/1, £275,208) in collaboration with Warwick and Ulster Universities will see the existing models, shown to be accurate for vacuum glazing, extended to address key questions relating to thermal stresses during operation in more complex systems with a heated flat plate solar absorber within the vacuum envelope.
