A non-destructive method for the measurement of residual strains in semi-crystalline polymer components
This was the first application of this non-destructive diffraction technique to semi-crystalline polymer components. Similar methods of determining residual strains using diffraction techniques have only been used in metals in the past. However, this paper is significant in applying the technique successfully to polymers for the first time. The advantage of this non-destructive method allows the locked-in residual strains to be determined post processing, which can be used to predict a materials physical properties and hence understand how to control the processing conditions to give optimal material performance.
