Additional information

The work comprises seven acts. Its subject matter is the small Austrian town of Ulrichsberg and its surrounding landscape. Each act represents a completely different and independent event, and each act is its own art form (planting trees, walking, rehearsal, concert, exhibition, etc.). The contents of the work are detailed in the programme pamphlet ‘Peter Ablinger: Lanschaftsoper Ulrichsberg’, Jazz Atelier Ulrichsberg, 2009. (An English translation of a brief overview of each act is also provided.) Research underpinning the composition is explained in the following portfolio items: 1) Ablinger, P., ‘Due Pratiche’, Neue Musik und andere Künste, Institut für Neue Musik und Musikerziehung Darmstadt, Band 50, Schott, 2010, pp. 236-244. (Documentation of Act 1)Ablinger, P., ‘Kopfhören: Notizen über das Wahrnehmen’, MusikTexte 124, 2010. 2) Ablinger P. and Fellinger, A., ‘Wahrnehmungslandschaften’, freiStil 25, 2009. The work has been the subject of lectures at the Academy of Arts Berlin, Wiederkehr der Landschaft (27.4.2010); Bard College (2011); and Haus der Kulturen der Welt, ‘über-lebens-kunst’ (19.8.2011). Radio broadcasts and interviews include Deutschlandradio (25.8.2009); SWR2 (21.9.2009); Bayerischer Rundfunk (8.2.2010); Deutschlandradio Kultur, ‘Die Natur als Mitspieler—Projektion und Wahrnehmung’ (17.4.2012). Exhibitions of the work have been given at Werkgalerie Villingen (2009/10); and Musikverein Wien.
