Detection and Removal of Limit Cycles in Sigma Delta Modulators
This represents several years' investigation into the theory of limit cycles in sigma delta based A/D and D/A converters, and provides a novel, efficient, low cost and highly effective solution to unwanted limit cycles. The method described in the paper was compared to state-of-the-art and industry standard methods and shown to offer superior performance in both computation and effectiveness. It has been patented and the patent was subsequently sold to Intellectual Ventures. The theory developed in this paper was applied by Philips for improved A/D converters (Derk Reefman, Sr. Director Philips Research derk.reefman@philips.com), used in new consumer devices.
