Archaeological applications of polynomial texture mapping: analysis, conservation and representation
Significance of output:
<15>Describes reflectance transformation imaging (RTI) project - a new design for multiple-light "RTI dome" imaging which is faster and higher quality than previous systems.
It helped move RTI to a usable form for end-users and led to follow on projects to roll out the technology to the Penn State, Berlin and the Louvre. The images contribute to humanities research by providing new and images of hundreds of ancient objects.
The results were rigorously tested against comparable 3D laser scanner data and qualitatively evaluated by archaeology scholars. The systems were trialed in museums from the Ashmolean to the British Museum.
