This research contributed significantly to the world's best low complexity distributed video codec. This technological breakthrough with a low complexity distributed video codec gives a computationally flexible architecture fulfilling the demand for low cost video coding technologies. Some application scenarios that would benefit from this modified complexity balance include: wireless low-power surveillance/multimedia sensor networks, PC/disposable cameras and mobile camera phones.
