Additional information

Silver nanoparticles are finding increasing use as antibacterial agents in consumer products, making it important to know if they influence human health. This publication determines how a major component of lung surfactant (DPPC) affects silver nanoparticle and the release of harmful silver ions. This is the first publication from a major US-NIESH funded collaboration, with three US institutions including Rutgers, as well as Diamond Light Source. The data from this paper are incorporated into the NIH toxicity database, used for development of nanoparticle risk models. Invited lectures: European Microscopy Congress 2013, Materials Today Virtual Microscopy Conference Plenary Lecture (Porter).
