Additional information

This work reported a new "green" processing method to make superclean steels. Inclusions and liquid metal are separated according to their electrical property discrepancies. The mechanism is fundamentally different from any other clean steel processing methods. Conventional processing methods can only removal inclusions whose sizes are larger than 20 micrometers. This new method can remove micro or sub-micro scale inclusions and make the steel more clean to suitable for heavy industry and advanced materials. TATA steel is evaluating the technology and provided £20K in support(contact: Dr. Andy Smith, , tel: 01642382136). Materials World (Issue 3, 2013) highlighted the project.
