Weibull-based methodology for condition assessment of cast iron water mains and its application
The work was carried out for Thames Water to improve their understanding of the in-service failure of cast iron water distribution pipes fail and support the targeted management of associated rehabilitation programmes. Using scaling arguments, inherent in the Weibull methodology, it was possible to use data from small samples to identify pipes in the network that had degraded the most significantly. This methodology, taken with other performance indicators, was used by Thames to identify the local regions where rehabilitation is required most urgently and has influenced the Thames approach to their Victorian main replacement programme.
