Additional information

This work demonstrated the limitation in evaluating biofouling potential in reverse osmosis membranes based on feed water characterisation and its use as a strategy for water recycling site selection. This study broadened the knowledge of membrane biofilm composition which directly informed the development of sustainable biofouling control measures (Yvan Poussade, Veolia Water Australia, yvan.poussade@veoliawater.com.au).
