Additional information

This work showed that the application of an ion-exchange process for the production of high quality drinking water was water specific. As a result, Yorkshire Water have built three new treatment plants at a cost of over £50m, which have improved water quality for consumers. In addition Yorkshire Water have funded further research into ion-exchange treatment of high organic content water sources, which has explored how alternative ion exchange processes can be implemented at full-scale.
